31 December 2025
This year, I feel like I didn't get a lot done that's public. I did write two albums, which may be public someday. I did a "tour of duty" on Substack, then decided that it wasn't for me, that I was online too much in general.
One thing that I found on Substack was the Samuel Richardson Prize, a prize for self-published fiction set up by Naomi Kanakia. I submitted Waiting For Margot. As of today, it has neither been accepted nor rejected for the first level of recognition, being named a finalist.
One thing that felt momentous was the release of "An Architecture of MSL/VMH Reform" here on Following. I feel like I finished something.
Over the past three years (2023, 2024, 2025), I have been "wrapping things up", like re-reading New Wine for the End Times and reading Formulalessness in 2023, and making the MSL booklet in 2024. This year, I re-read my fiction and also made the Formulalessness ebook editions. I don't know of anything else left to do for "wrapping things up".
I did not spend much time out in the local social scene in San Diego in 2025.
I kept going back and forth on Indonesian. I made a demo of "Pacuan Dengan Matahari" (translation of "Horseback Racing the Sun" into Indonesian). As of today, I feel ambivalent about studying Indonesian but would bet that I will continue.
Last year in "2024 to 2025" I mentioned a feeling of fatigue. It was sort of the "ground note" of 2024. In 2025, at the end, I don't feel tired, I think having given up the project that we'll say ended with "An Architecture of MSL/VMH Reform". But now, I lack the ability to study in a heavy way, or work on most of my writing. This year, I did get into doing book reviews, which seem to require less deep thinking. Yet now at the end of the year, I seem to be taking a break from that.
I'm not sure what I will do in 2026. One thing that seems obvious is to "rest" (work on things that I'm not tired of). As above, I think I will probably keep studying Indonesian, although I'm not sure about that. Also will probably keep writing albums. Possibly a few book reviews.
